PRODUCT: The Geigerrig Rig 700 hydration backpack is a high-end adventure pack that comes from a company with a history in turning contaminated water into safe drinking water via a filtration system. Aguamira’s philosophy is to stay hydrated through adventurous times, and their filtration, purification and storage solutions are designed to be practical, portable and purpose-built. The pack features a 70-ounce reservoir that is reversible, dishwasher-safe and filter-ready. The Rig 700 accepts the Frontier Max Filtration system, which is a purpose-built filter cartridge that allows you to modify the filtration to meet your needs. The RED Line is for maximum protection, while GRN Line is for bacteria protection.
The backpack is made from 600D poly, features Molle attachment webbing, has a smartphone compartment and a waterproof zipper pocket. Internally, there are storage compartments, an organizer, a heavy-duty pack handle, and chest straps and attachment loops.
OUR TAKE: This is an efficient and well-built backpack. It has a chest strap and waist strap that keep it in place while riding. The storage is plenty big, and the pockets are easy to organize. There’s a hand pump on the left side that allows you to pressurize the system, meaning you simply bite down on the mouthpiece and the water flows. It takes only a handful of pumps to get it to pressurize. Overall, it has a good fit, feel and design.
NEGATIVES: Honestly, the pressurizing system is a waste. It’s just as easy to bite and suck.
BOTTOM LINE: You can tell that this hydration system really targets the backwoods-pack junkie, though it segues nicely into a pack that the exploration-minded dirt bike pilot can enjoy. While it’s rare that we ever venture far enough to have to search for water, the ability to have drinkable and bacteria-free water is a huge deal, especially for those of us who ride in Mexico. It’s sells for $140, which is in line with CamelBak and Klim hydration systems.
