Piaggio, the parent company of Aprilia, recently released this new model to the press. It’s called the MXV450 and it’s the first production V-Twin motocross bike in history. The bike is claimed to weigh under 250 pounds and produce around 60 horsepower. It’s loosely based on the RXV that Stephan Merriman has successfully raced in the World Enduro Championship. The RXV is Aprilia’s dual-sport bike that carries a similar motor. The motor is mostly new and even has a different firing interval than the RXV, and is said to be more tractible. It is fuel injected, but has no battery, instead relying on a capacitor to light up the injection system, much like an ’09 Honda or Kawasaki 450. We started the bike in the parking lot in one kick. It sounds odd, almost like a two-stroke. The bike is already arriving in dealerships and we’re first in line to get a test bike. Stay tuned.
