2019 SLM KTM 200 MX BUILD: TWO-STROKE TUESDAY

On this week’s Two-Stroke Tuesday we take a look at a very clean 2019 KTM 200SX build done by SLM Racing for  Andrew Piland one of the companies first employees. We are still scratching our heads on KTM’s decision to stop making the 200 but thats another story. 2-Stroke Theater is all about small bore two-strokes featuring a 125cc four bike shootout and three project builds that will blow your mind. Products from Mitas Tires and IMS are on display in 2-Stroke Hardware and don’t miss the exclusive link at the bottom of this page to our behind the build look at our insanely fast KTM 125SX project.

This build is a combination of two completely different machines originally produced fifteen years apart from each other. The power plant was harvested from a 2004 KTM 200 SX and the rolling chassis is a 2019 KTM 125 SX.

The engine was cleaned up and rebuilt but internally remained relatively stock with the addition of an FMF Gold Series Fatty and 2.1 silencer. Boyesen ignition and clutch covers were also added for some bling factor.

Although it looks like the 2004 200cc engine would just drop right in the 2019 chassis that wasn’t the case. Todd reached out to his friend BUBBACO. Bubba has been building bike conversions for almost twenty years and was up for the challenge.

People ask Todd from SLM Racing what it takes to build a bike like this all the time.  His reply is “Two very good donor bikes, no questions, and a blank check.” Well we have a blank check but we probably wouldn’t be able to keep our mouths shut and ask way too many questions.
