Racing in New England and winning brought Jimmy Ellis to the attention of Can-Am, a Canadian based manufacturer who were dipping their toes into the dirt bike market. They hired Jimmy in 1974 and he went on to win two Nationals and finish third in the series. But 1975 was a huge leap for the rider from Connecticut as he dominated the newly tagged “Supercross” championship winning every race in the four-event series. Ellis raced for Can-Am through the 1977 season, got signed by Honda with his best year coming in 1978 when he finished behind Bob Hannah in the 250 Nationals. Jimmy retired from U.S racing 1981, got talked into racing in Australia and built a life and family in the land from down under.

AMA ANNOUNCES TWO NEW EXTREME OFF-ROAD SERIES

Qualifying system for 2020 AMA Extreme Off-Road Grand Championship opens 26 more spots

Nine events in two qualifying series provide more opportunities to secure a spot in the 2020 AMA Extreme Off-Road Grand Championship, the Tennessee Knockout on Aug. 14-16 at the Trials Training Center in Sequatchie, Tenn. The new format and additional events open up 26 more spots at the TKO.

2020 AMA Extreme Off-Road East Series

March 28-29: RevLimiter Extreme Enduro, Decatur, Texas
May 16-17: Madd Moose, Marquette, Mich.
July 4-5: Tough Like RORR, Tamaqua, Pa.
July 18-19: Fallen Timbers, Little Hocking, Ohio
Aug. 1-2: Battle of the Goats, Taylorsville, N.C.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

This is the early 90’s, Glen Helen’s big track and a chunk of real estate where I spent nearly every Thursday motoing. Back then I was a big KX500 fan,, loving the bottom to mid muscle that helped a very average motocrosser get around the tough circuit. While this jump doesn’t look like anything special, it was a full seat sucker for this magazine guy!
