THE WEEKLY FEED: PROJECT HUSKY TX300 “THIS THING IS SWEET!”

BLAST FROM THE PAST

Tallon Vohland signed with FMF/Honda team in 1999, He was racing in Europe, got a call from his friend Bobby Moore, who was running the FMF effort. In Tallon’s words: “Bobby said that If you come back to the USA, you could make $25,000 a race.” So, we started talking. He sent me an FMF Honda contract that paid a $25,000 bonus to win a race. That was insane compared to the World Championship, because in the World Championship it was like $3000 if you won a GP. The salary was just okay, but the bonuses were huge. I thought to myself, “If I am ever going to go back to America, this is my chance.”

Tallon’s strength was outdoors and he stunned the world at Glen Helen, the opening round of the 1999 Outdoor MX schedule.

Ricky Carmichael was the king of the class. Tallon says “He was obviously the sickest dude ever. He won 10 straight National titles. When I caught and passed him at Glen Helen in 1999, he had never been beaten at that track. People went nuts when I passed him in the second moto. It was crazy around that track, because he was this unbeatable person. I didn’t win that day, although I did win at Budds Creek over Ricky later in the year. But, catching him at Glen Helen got me a two-year contract for 2000 and 2001.”

DICKS RACING HUSQVARNA TX300

Dick Wilk came by the office with his latest creation built around the Husqvarna TX 300. In talking with Dick we learned that he was flat stunned with the engine. He calls it the best 300 ‘stock’ engine he has worked with. Dick spent considerable effort on the suspension, the air fork getting his Hybrid AER kit which includes all new valving and a spring setup. He  focused on increased versatility, a plusher ride and better fore to aft balance. With the shock, the mods target improved tractability, feel in cobby terrain and versatility for better action from desert racing to woods riding. A Scalvini cone pipe and Scalvini silencer handle the exhaust parameters of the TX.

Dick loves the ‘Heritage’ look of the TX, being a full blown Husky addict. Decal Works handled the graphics, Tusk rotors, and bolted to black hubs w/Gold rims, Dunlop tires and Nitro Mousse foam inserts were installed in both wheels.

For off-road work a Seat Concepts ‘Comfort’ saddle offers enhanced feel, fanny traction and is easier on the bum. The comfort shape maintains a similar contour to stock at the front of the seat, so the rider’s legs are not spread farther apart but tapers out towards the mid-point to distribute rider weight over a greater area. The cover is their ‘Element’ which has four traction ribs.

Custom gold/black wheels, Dunlop MX33s, Primary Drive chain and sprockets, Flexx bars and a Scotts steering damper adorn Dick’s TX300.

Dick Wilk and his machine. He’s a long time racer and is passionate about riding.

This latest Works Connection Pro Launch Start Device is designed specifically for the all new ’23 YZ450F. Yamaha changed to a new wrap around style fork guard and the new kit allows easy installation without having to trim the wrap around portion of the guard. The exact same kit is currently being used by Eli Tomac, Dylan Ferrandis and Justin Cooper on their Star Racing Yamaha’s. The Pro Launch utilizes a patented spring-less trigger and a Hard Anodized fork ring to deliver positive engagement, consistent release and long-term durability.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

This shot is from my buddy Shane Trittler’s Castaic Motocross track. It was close to home, Shane made a delicious circuit that was ladled with fun jumps so we did a lot of testing there. The year- 1997 and I’m riding the conventionally forked Suzuki RM250.
