THE WEEKLY FEED: JOHN DESOTO CAPTURED, CODY WEBB VID IS NUTS!

CAPTURED

John Desoto, the Flyin Hawaiian was a So Cal favorite, racing CZ’s and was always in the hunt for Top American status when the Trans Am and Inter-Am series brought the dominant Europeans to the states. Desoto raced a myriad of brands, CZ, early Kawasaki prototypes, Ossa and for Suzuki. His Suzuki term of office didn’t last long as John was tough on machines and the early TM was not known for its handling prowess, or its durability.

Happy Birthday Mark Kariya!

Adolf Weil, the Old man of motocross was the Paul Newman of the sport. At 40-years old he was a top GP star and as you can see from the factory support, life for the factory rider was salted with perks.

I was inspired by @tonibou to step up my game. I’m gonna throw my gummy tire on for next time.

DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?

Back in the day getting photos of yourself riding/racing was limited to getting into Cycle News, or Motorcycle Weekly. But at many of the tracks they sold these Mini Vues, shots of yourself racing. This was big! I found this one in the bowels of my office, it’s from 1976, Hangtown. I raced Amateur day, along with Brother Mike and our good friend Carl Ribaudo and then we got to witness our local star Bob Hannah kill it in the 125 class. As I remember we slept in the back of our truck, thousands partied all night and then along with a huge crowd watched the Hurricane dismantle Marty Smith, who was considered Superman.

SCRATCHED

Back in the 90’s I was apparently easily amused. I’m goofing around as Fran Kuhn was attempting to shoot my RMX250 in the studio. Nice shorts Wolf!
Check out some of the names from the 1993 Tecate 250 Results. Rex Staten, Malcolm Smith, LR, Danny Hamil, Ty Davis, Jeff Russell, Fritz, Harden, Danny Ashcraft, Burleson along with a smattering of mag dudes.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

This is my brother Mike on our Honda 160. We’re at Annuals, a local riding area that was actually an inhosptitable piece of landscape in the west end of the San Fernando valley. Originally I bought this bike, right around ’68 or ’69 and I rode it to high school in Encino. Usually brother Mike was a passenger! Eventually we stripped it down and turned it into a real dirt bike.
