GNCC SERIES ROUND #2–MARCH 10

GNCC SERIES ROUND #2–MARCH 10

Round two of the GNCC series was held on a perfect day for racing at Paradise Park just out side of Macon, GA. Sunny skies and temps in the low 60’s greeted the riders after some serious moisture hammered the area earlier in the week. Yamaha’s Barry Hawk grabbed the hole shot followed closely by Rodney Smith and Mike Lafferty on the muddy and rutted 10-mile course. Suzuki’s Mike Kiedrowski, Steve Hatch and KTM’s Brian Garrahan battled for the next positions. Halfway through the 2nd lap, Lafferty took control and pulled out a 10-second lead just before the pits. As the riders pulled out of the pits starting their forth of six laps, Lafferty had a 25 second lead on Hatch, followed by Garrahan and Kiedrowski. Last weeks winner, Rodney Smith, DNFed when he clipped something tough and tore off his water pump. Over the next two laps Lafferty would continue to lead by about 10 sec while Hatch, Garrahan and Kiedrowski swapped positions regularly. Midway through the final lap Hatch had pulled behind Lafferty, with Kiedrowski 5-seconds back and Garrahan falling off the back by about 10 seconds. With three miles to go, Hatch edged by Lafferty and Kiedrowski had caught the lead duo for a dogfight to the end. MK passed Junior on the final motocross over a huge set of doubles that Lafferty singled. When they got to the checkered flag, Hatch would score a narrow victory, Kiedrowski podiumed for second overall and Mike Lafferty tallied third as they all crossed the line nose to tail.
