OFF-ROAD RIDERS MUST ACT QUICKLY ON STRATEGIC PLAN

(urgent press release)

Motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle riders need to act now to tell the U.S. Department of the Interior that motorized recreation should be an important part of the department?s new strategic plan, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) said.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has set a March 1 deadline for public comments in its effort to develop a new strategic plan. The new plan will be a single agency-wide plan that will replace the department overview and nine bureau plans now in place.

“It?s critical that motorcyclists and ATVers let the department know that continued motorized recreation should be an important goal in the new strategic plan because the department controls the Bureau of Land Management (BLM),” said Royce Wood, AMA legislative affairs specialist.” The BLM manages 264 million acres of public land, including some of the best riding areas in the country.

“The AMA has been at the table in roundtable discussions with the department, representing the interests of motorcyclists and ATVers,” Wood added. “Written comments from motorcyclists and ATVers would help send a clear message that there is a critical need for motorized recreation to continue in the future.”

To tell the Department of the Interior that you support motorized recreation as a key goal in the new strategic plan, email your comments to [email protected], send your comments by fax to (202) 208-2619, or write: Department of the Interior, Office of Planning and Performance Management, Mail Stop #5258, Washington, DC 20240
