FIRST LOOK–2019 DUCATI 1260 ENDURO: ADVENTURE BIKE SPOTLIGHT

Ducati recently held an introduction in Italy for the 2019 Multistrada 1260 Enduro. This is the latest model in the Multistrada line and marks the company’s most serious effort as far as off-road capabilities. The 1262cc Testastretta L-Twin motor was released in the standard Multistrada mid-year in 2018, and it features Ducati Variable Valve Timing. Horsepower is rated at 158 with 94 foot-pounds of torque. The motor is said to have vastly improved low-end power. It has three level of output that can be selected electronically if you don’t want full thrust all the time.

By offering the 1260 in the Enduro trim package, the bike gets spoked wheels with a 19-incher in front (as opposed to the 17 inch cast wheels on the standard Multistrada). It also has increased fuel capacity (7.9 gal vs. 5.3), and various pieces of off-road armor. The suspension travel is increased suspension travel (7.9” vs. 6.7”), but not as much as the 1200 Enduro model in the past. With this, Ducati managed to lower the seat height by a half inch.

As you might expect, the Ducati offers a complex array of electronic features. It has four modes that affect virtually everything about the bike: Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. Each of those can be customized in sub-menus: ABS (three levels plus off), wheelie control (eight levels plus off), traction control (eight levels plus off), rear shock, power output (three levels), fork (four levels), load (four levels: rider; rider + luggage; rider + passenger; rider + passenger + luggage).

It also has hold control (to keep the bike from rolling backwards on hills), cornering lights that re-aim the headlights into the turn, and a Sachs steering damper. The suggested retail price is $21,995, and it will only be available in sand color in the U.S.
