WHIBLEY STORMS THE OMA OPENER!

Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals, Round 1
Whibley number one in Nashville

By Mark Kariya

While they may have changed teams and machinery, Jimmy Jarrett and Paul Whibley didn’t change the way they tossed the lead back and forth between themselves all day as the Parts Unlimited Off-road Motorcycle and ATV Nationals kicked off with the Maxxis Hangman Cross-country National in Nashville, Tennessee.
But in the end, defending series champion Whibley overcame early issues to reel in JG Offroad/GEICO Powersports/Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jarrett and lead him to the checkered flag by 33 seconds.
“Hopefully, it’s going to continue [like this] all this season,” Whibley grinned. “It’ll be a good year’s racing if it carries on like this.”

Jarrett, on the other hand, said, “Hopefully, it doesn’t go like last year. He got a bunch of wins real quick, early in the season. I just need to win a couple and keep him in sight with points and all that—can’t let him get away.”
In a battle of guys who are normally 250F racers, Jason Thomas edged Scott Watkins for third overall, using the power of his Andrews Yamaha/Monster Energy/O’Neal YZ450F to beat JG Offroad/GEICO Powersports/Monster Energy KX250F-mounted Watkins by three seconds.
Husaberg’s Nick Fahringer rounded out the top five on his Motorex/Pirelli/Troy Lee Designs FE450.
