BLAST FROM THE PAST: ADOLF WEIL

Adolf Weil may have never won a world championship, but his grit, style and the fact that he was competitive into his mid-30’s deemed him the “Iron Man” of Motocross. He won 14 German motocross championships, finished third three times in the 500 GPs and was second to Hakan Anderson in the 1973 250 GPs. Adolf touched the heart of America in 1973 when he won the Trans-AMA championship at 34 years old. Adolf always wore an open face helmet, was mounted on a Maico and was instrumental in the AW Maico, which was named after him. Adolf was born in 1938 and passed away unexpectedly in 2011. Mark Kiel captured this shot of Adolf at the Sears Point Trans-AMA in 1976.
