Tom Rapp was a California star and well known for his Bultaco, his long locks and rock star looks. Everyone who grew up racing in So Cal saw the Bultaco pilot as a threat at every race track from Saddleback, to the ‘Dunes, to Ascot raceway. Tom was a Santa Cruz based racer, became nationally recognized with strong results and he now resides in Montana. This shot is from Hangtown, 1972.

AMA Michigan Extreme Off-road State Championship, the KENDA Mad Moose Extreme Enduro in Marquette, Michigan was a super tough event. It’s got Erzberg like rock zones- in the woods! This, and the fact that it rained hard the night before made it treacherous, with zero traction and the slimy slick rocks all ladled with goo kept the pro finishers down to 10! PAT SMAGE DOMINANT AGAIN AT AMA/NATC NATIONAL MOTO TRIALS
Pat Smage remained perfect in the 2018 AMA/NATC US National MotoTrials Series.

Pat Smage remained perfect in the 2018 AMA/NATC US National MotoTrials Series after adding his seventh and eighth wins of the season at rounds seven and eight of the series in Uniontown, Arkansas. With the wins, the Sherco USA rider closed in on a record-tying 10th U.S. national trials title, which will tie him with Geoff Aaron for the most U.S. trials titles.
Behind Smage, Gas Gas North America’s Daniel Blanc-Gonnet and Scorpa USA’s Karl Davis Jr. waged a battle for second and third place over the course of the two days, with Blanc-Gonnet taking the runners-up slot on Saturday and Davis taking the honors on Sunday.
Blanc-Gonnet turned in a stellar performance on Saturday, finishing just 12 marks off of Smage’s pace en route to second place, while Davis was inconsistent all day and finished up the event in third.

The year 1994. This was an ISDE Qualifier based (I believe) outside of Mt. Baker Washington. I was riding in the newly formed 40 class, which offered positions to make the iSDE team which was finally back in the U.S. (at the John Zink Ranch). My bike was a Husaberg 501 and at that time was a game changer in the 4-stroke world. It was incredibly fast, throttled down nicely for woods racing and was light. I fit mine with a Marozcchi fork and Honda wheels and brakes, both upgrades were huge.
