BLAST FROM THE PAST

bubba-gd
How about a look back at James Stewart? Known as Bubba, James made the jump from Team Green straight to Factory Kawasaki, one of the only riders who bypassed the Pro Circuit team. Always known for his aggressive style, Stewart really rewrote the rules on speed mated to a style that reduced brutal tracks to a playground for the upcoming super star.

For the final Feed of the year we decided to go with a moto and off-road Blast from the Past. Here’s our good friend Rodney Smith making the infamous water jump at the 2007 Yadkinville GNCC where he raced a 250 four stroke in the XC2 Pro-Lites division. He took home fourth.

PRAYERS TO PAUL WHIBLEY AND HIS FAMILY

Our buddy Jimmy Jarrett posted this on Instagram about Paul Whibley’s wife who was involved in a car crash.

RUMORS…

With the Anaheim Supercross right around the corner there are several pretty cool trends/rumors running through the air waves.

There’s big buzz surrounding Eli Tomac and his incredible speed on the Kawa. We’ve also heard that he’s had three big crashes, but has come through unscathed. It will be interesting to see if Eli can throttle down and finish off a season.

James Stewart is a total unknown, which is weird. But a lack of ‘race’ reps has him a big question mark. We hear that he just set the track record at his SX facility and that his fitness level is back up to where he wants it. Word has it that Malcolm has turned into a fitness loon and is helping to drive his big brother.

Finally, Suzuki is the only Factory team to stick with Showa. Tomac (Kaw), Roczen (RCH Suzuki), Tickle (RCH Suzuki), Canard/Seely (Honda), JGR Yamaha all run factory KYB suspension.

Chad Reed will race a factory Yamaha, but it’s a performance only deal (no salary). His relationship with 360 Fly Camera will be his major sponsor, his bike will be KYB equipped and Pro Circuit powered.

Word has it that Ken Roczen is on a tear. He’s on a fitness binge and sources say that his supercross testing and tenacity is incredible. He’s on the top of the list as the man to beat at Anaheim.

YEE HAW! DUNLOP IS FINALLY BRINGING IN 18-INCH MX32 (NOW CALLED THE MX3S) AND 52’S

Since its introduction in the pro ranks, Geomax MX32 and MX52 patterned tires have won every Supercross and motocross national championship four years in a row, and the Geomax AT81 went straight from the production line to the podium, winning back-to-back national Enduro and GNCC championships in 2014 and 2015.

Now there’s more good news for Geomax riders: The MX32 and MX52 will soon be available in 18-inch rear sizes.

“We’ve had a lot of requests for 18-inch rear fitments from off-road riders who want the same performance that motocross riders get from the 19-inch rear Geomax MX series tires, so we’re making 18-inch sizes available in January, 2016,” said Mike Manning, Director of Marketing, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires. “Additionally, we’ve renamed the MX32 to avoid any confusion between a competitor’s tire and ours. The Dunlop Geomax MX32 is now the Geomax MX3S, but only the name has changed. It’s the same tire that has won numerous championships, and now it’s available to even more riders in 18-inch sizes.”

Photos that make my head buzz

Old man skin! I can remember making fun of aging dudes who had skin like parchment. Now I’m one of them!

That’s the Wolf with his angels on their first ride.

My favorite Christmas card courtesy of the MX Files and Todd Huffman. Killer Hannah shot!

The Soboba trail ride a couple of years ago. I rode the majority of the first loop with this guy. It doesn’t get any better than riding with your hero.

Who says big guys can’t ride off-road? David Knight came to the states and dominated the GNCC series in 2007 and 2008. He won 15 races in 2-years!

One of my favorite shots in Dirt Bike. Super Hunky got it, shooting Jim Holley up in the hills above Indian Dunes. Clipper and I were shooting down low and from behind, thinking that Rick was a loon. He killed our stuff!

Interesting note…

Female motorcycle ownership is at an all-time high according to the latest data from the Motorcycle Industry Council. The MIC’s latest Motorcycle Owner Survey found that women account for 14 percent of all U.S. motorcycle owners, well up from the 8 percent reported in 1998.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

How did the South Carolina gumbo ruts treat the Wolf at the ’03 GNCC? I sucked pretty bad, but had a riot racing one of Suzuki’s Factory off-road 2-strokes.
