KTM ANNOUNCES 2013 FACTORY EDITION

 

KTM just announced the 2013 450SXF Factory Edition. Last year’s edition of the bike was designed from the off-road 450XC and had the primary mission of allowing Ryan Dungey to race the bike in AMA competition. Since the ‘80s, pro racing rules have not allowed works bike that are not available to the public. The frame and engine cases must be based on a production bike, so 400 of the Factory Editions were imported. This year KTM continues with that tradition, and 555 of the 2013 Factory Editions will be sold to the public in the U.S. Another 150 will be sold in Europe. The main reason that it would not be considered a production bike is the introduction of new engine cases that have lost the kickstarter provision. That was the last vestige of the original XC off-road bike. By removing the kickstarter boss KTM saved over 0.5 pounds.

The bike also features a number of chassis upgrades including orange anodized CNC-machined triple clamps, an orange powder-coated frame, a Salle de Valle seat, an Akrapovic titanium factory silencer, gold Regina racing chain, orange-anodized rear 52T sprocket, black Excel rims, orange radiator and fork protectors, Dunlop GEOMAX MX51 tires, a holeshot device, front brake disc guard and exclusive Red Bull KTM Factory Team blue and orange graphics. The bike also has a map switch for easy adjustment of the new ignition curves and an hour meter to help track time between maintenance intervals. The MSRP of the bike will be a tick under $10,000, and each bike will have a plate with its own number, starting with 001.
