Tim Hart, Factory Yamaha 1975. The machine was fit with their large air canisters on the fork and this is Tim at a Nor Cal Trans-Am. I dug for info, but it was sketchy at best, still I thought the photo was superb and it brought back memories. The next year, 1976, the sport changed when Bob Hannah hit the dance floor as he set the bar for speed, wildness, fitness and an overall loathing of every other competitor in  the field and used it to his advantage by dominating the racing.

Word from the Team Suzuki Manager (whom I spent Easter weekend with!) is that James is set to return to Santa Clara for the Supercross. Mike said that James has been both testing (working on a myriad of fork combinations) and training trying to get his fitness and speed back in the hunt. The world has low expectations, I want to see him get mentally tough and get through the program. James is good for the sport, but the reality is that he’s maybe a top ten guy since Dungey, Marvin and Kroc have set a wicked standard. Good luck 7!

NEW PRODUCT: 4CS Fork Low Speed Control Kit

Race Tech has just a launched a Fork Low Speed Compression Control Kit to improve low speed compression damping on the WP 4CS forks.  In stock form, Race Tech has found the WP 4CS forks are a bit too loose (or a mushy feel). The Low Speed Control Kit provides a firm, but not harsh feel while allowing damping to be soft enough to absorb roughness.

The 4CS Fork Compression Performance Kit blocks off two bleed holes, one at the compression base and the other in the seal head at the top.  Each kit also includes an installation tool.  Tuners love this kit because it provides excellent low speed control.

This kit works best with RT Adjustable Compression Bases that now include an LSV (Low Speed Valve).

When the Race Tech Fork Low Speed Control Kit for WP 4CS forks is combined with Compression and Rebound Gold Valves and a personalized valving setup, the result is a plush feeling suspension with increased bottoming resistance.

Charlie Mullins prepping for the upcoming GNCC at Steele Creek, North Carolina at a local hare scrambles. He’s coming back from wrist injuries that would keep most folks fumbling with their silverware just to get food in their mouth.

Tony Blazier posts some great old mag shots, like this one of Jon “The General” Miller in 1983. I shot this at Indian Dunes in the sand wash.

Feed ya
I found this bouncing around on Instagram; early 90s at the Idaho City 4-day qualifier with my buddy Mental, brother Mike and yours truly all mounted on Suzuki RMX250s.

Barstow to Vegas, 1987. I ended up third in the Vet Expert class, not so good overall. I remember Cliff Thomas won on a YZ250 and that I really didn’t care for desert racing, in fact it scared the leaping meat loaf right out of me. Unfortunately when I was looking up results I saw that Ron beat me. Not that’s irritating…
