WOODS FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS

On Wednesday, Glen Helen hosted a day of riding dedicated to the memory of Nathan Woods who passed away after a practice crash at the opening WORCS race of the year. The event was designed to be a fundraiser for Nate’s wife Amanda and her two children, but it became much more than that as a huge crowd of friends and extended family gathered to remember and celebrate Nate’s life. The event was organized by Charles Jirsa, Kurt Caselli, the Goolsby family, Debbie Prince, KTM and a large group of volunteers. It was all about riding, but it included a raffle, a silent auction, a not-so-silent auction hosted by Tom White and the sale of memorabilia. The final proceeds are said to be around the $25,000 mark. The event was considered a success, and the Woods family was overwhelmed with the support and love that the off-road community displayed.
Many off-road riders were on hand, including WORCS champion Caselli as well as GNCC champion Josh Strang. There were current national MX stars like Broc Tickle, and several former National Champions like Grant Langston and Gary Jones. There were so many ultra fast riders on the track that Charles eventually decided it was best to divide the time between pros and amateurs. Gary Jones and Brad Goolsby also led a trail ride on Glen Helen’s back section, which is normally closed to riding. There were over 100 takers and they weren’t disappointed in the quality of Glen Helen’s private reserve of trails.
There were so many items donated that not all were raffled away by the end of the day–the effort will continue next week at the WORCS race. For  those wishing to help support Amanda and the kids, www.nathanwoodsoffroad.com has a link to a PayPal account.
