WHEN IT RAINES, IT POURS –AUG 30 |
In a terrible turn of events for points leader Jason Raines, the Yamaha mounted rider crashed and broke his leg at the ninth round of the GNCC Series in McHenry, Maryland. Fortunately for Raines, there is a month lull between races for the 23 year old to heal. Jason expects to be back near 100% by the time the series heads to Millfield, Ohio and maintain his points lead over Mike Lafferty and Rodney Smith. Speaking of Lafferty, the KTM rider also encountered bad luck a few weeks back when he crashed while demonstrating the 2003 KTM 250SX at a dealer meeting. Lafferty suffered a broken shoulder blade, thus ending his title shot at another GNCC championship. Mike will be forced to sit out least the next two races, and most likely handing second place over to Rodney Smith. Smith, who has been in pressure situations before, could be handed the championship as the series is about to hit the final stretch. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. The old adage ?when it rains, it pours? certainly follows suit this year. Maybe that same adage should be changed to, ?when it Raines, it pours.? Nevertheless, Jason Raines and Rodney Smith will both be gunning for the championship, with Lafferty down for the count. Stay tuned, as the series heads to Millfield, Ohio on September 7-8. |
