The opening round of the WORCS series in Phoenix Arizona was a mud bath. In the least likely place to have rain, the dry deserts of Arizona, the rain hit Speed World raceway for three days. Luckily for the pro class the skies were clear and blue for the money race in which Ricky Dietrich grabbed the holeshot. Ryan Hughes quickly ran Dietrich down on the muddy course and the two pulled away from the pack slowly. The tough log section claimed Rhyno on the first lap, allowing the more calculated Dietrich to pull away as Rhyno kicked away at his 450 between logs. The top two positions never changed after that and Dietrich finished the day almost as clean as he started. Kurt Caselli worked his way up to third, chasing down a hard charging Derek Costella. Costella faded and a slimed down Bobby Bonds on a YZ450F finished a strong fourth while Destry Abbott took fifth place honors. Dietrich looked strong and has some great momentum going into the second round of the series going down in February in the great state of California. Check out www.worcsracing.com for more info. 1.
