After a series of break-downs and bad luck, 2000 was a season that Ty Davis would like to forget. He took a big step in putting that all behind him at the Los Ancianos Tecate Hare-Scrambles on Sunday. Davis traded his big four-stroke for a YZ250 and led the race from beginning to end, virtually unchallenged the whole way. Second place was a battle between Russ Pearson and Mike Lafferty, with the two trading places throughout the three-hour race. Pearson came out on top of that duel by a scant 10 seconds at the finish. Destry Abbott’s race was impressive; he flipped his KX250 on the way to the first turn, remounted, and was fourth by the end of the first lap. There he stayed for the rest of the afternoon, with a slight gap over Brian Brown and Pat Garrahan. The first 125 was Luca Trussardi who battled with none other than Larry Roeseler the whole way. Vitually everyone agreed that the 12-mile course was excellent, with just enough moisture to keep the dust down and the traction up.
