TY DAVIS 2003 YAMAHA YZ250 WORCS RACE BIKE: TWO-STROKE TUESDAY

On this week’s Two-Stroke Tuesday we take a look back at a Yamaha YZ250 raced by legendary off-road rider Ty Davis in the 2003 World Off-Road Championship Series or WORCS as most people know it today.  There are products from Torc 1 Racing and 6D Helmets featured in our 2-Stroke Hardware section and 2-Stroke Theater has four Travis Fant creations you don’t want to miss! Did we mention Cody Webb on a factory Red Bull KTM fuel injected two-stroke? Yamaha 2-Stroke lovers be sure to check out the exclusive link at the bottom of this post.

What is an off-road bike without a stabilizer setup. The Scotts system was simple back in 2003 and hasn’t changed much over the years.

Huge effort went into designing the Zip Ty Racing pipe and trust us when we say they worked great! To this day the Zip Ty exhaust is still on of the best we have tested for the YZ250.

Zip Ty Racing (Ty Davis) designed a silencer matching the pipe specs that he designed and featured a removable spark arrestor screen . Just like the pipe it was produced by Flow Exhaust.

The oversize front rotor and hanger bracket was a Zip Ty Racing part designed by Ty Davis himself.

The engine internally was pretty much stock with the addition of Moto-Tassinari reeds but the compression ratio was stock. Davis would run VP U-4 in his two-stroke because he felt with stock compression the bike doesn’t need a higher octane fuel. He felt the U-4 made really good power but because it has more oxygen in the fuel a richer jetting spec is required.

IMS oversized tank with a quick dump system, Scotts Stabilizer,  Zip Ty Racing exhaust, Zip Ty Oversized front brake, Race Tech Suspension, Zip Ty Shark Fin, Zip Ty Chain Adjusters, Acerbis hand guards, Uni Air Filter and some aluminum protection items were the bare necessities for a factory level off-road race machine in 2003.
