2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE

For 2023,  the KTM 390 ADVENTURE has a sharp, fresh look but has also beefed-up its off-road capability. The bike now has tough yet light spoked wheels (19” front and 17” rear) with black anodized aluminum rims so unplanned meetings with roots and rocks out on the trail will not bring the journey to a swift halt.

TESTING- THE 300S ON THE TRAIL

Ryan Koch on the trail riding Kevin’s Dicks Racing modded KTM 300 TPI. We tested two sets of suspension, modified stock and modified WP Pro Components suspension.

 

We’re constantly testing versions of the incredibly popular KTM/HQV 300. This month we have started a mods story on a new KTM 300XC with Throttle Body Injection (Webb’s Realtor buddy BP) plus a good friend  who lives in Montana and has a 2022 KTM 300 Erzberg and is looking for the ultimate suspension for a trail rider who wants the best. Dicks Racing helped him setup a WP Pro Cone Valve fork and Tax shock, and modified the stock dampers. Here’s a quick look at what we’re diving into.

This was day four in the suspension testing. Both stock and the Pro Components units were setup up for trail riding, with the owner wanting the best he could buy.

 

The WP Cone Valve fork is expensive, but shines with high end finishes and tuning capabilities.

 

This WP Trax Pro Components shock is two years old, but is equipped with two hi-speed damping adjusters, along with the X-Trig spring adjuster. Dicks Racing dialed it in for the 170 pound pilot who wanted it super absorbent in rocks and roots.

 

Here’s the owner of the test Erzberg- Kevin Olen. He’s an old friend of Webb’s and came down from Montana to test in the high desert.

 

Here’s Brian Palmers ’23 XC300. This is phase 1, the suspension is stock with the exception of a stiffer rear spring. BP added armor for the rear rotor (Enduro Engineering), the fork lugs (TM Designs) and the pipe (P3 Carbon).

 

The big change here is the Rekluse RadiusCX clutch. BP has used them for years on his 4-stroke, but being a newbee in the 2-stroke planet, hoped it would help his trailing abilities and still climb with an appetite. The RadiusCX is Rekluse’s top of the line auto clutch product that brings together all of their latest technology into one package. TorqDrive friction disk technology coupled with EXP and our Core technology target significant advancement in auto performance with exceptional hook-up, lever feel and durability. BP thoughts- Ah, he loves it! More to come.

 

BP had very little good to say about the stock saddle. The Seat Concepts Comfort saddle fixed it immediately!

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

Valley Cycle Park, 1974, CZ mounted. I believe I was racing 500 Intermediates, or had maybe just turned Expert and the boys at Horizons Unlimited had moved up the shocks on my 380.  This proved to be a monumental improvement in handling, but the bad side was I couldn’t find any shocks that were stiff enough, and would hold up to the new leverage put on them. I ended up with Poppy Bodied Konis, which was pretty much the fix. I love this shot!
