BLAST FROM THE PAST

aberg-bul
Team Bultaco’s Bengt Aberg at Saddleback Trans Am circa 1974. Bengt was always a hero of our clan, from his Husky days , through Bultaco and his Yamaha TT500 escapades. No one could hook a turn like Bengt as his inside knee could tuck behind the bar and allow him to maintain his cornering angles. Check out the bars-reinforced  outside of the crossbar.

The new EXO-AT950 is a modular helmet with a removable external face shield, an internal drop-down tinted sun visor, and costs under $300. “After three years of development, we are delighted to bring this new product to market.” says Frank Esposito. “We’ve known there has been a demand for a modular ADV style helmet for years, but we wanted to make sure the helmet met all the needs of the Touring and Adventure Touring community.  We have been asking people what they wanted in a helmet and why, and we feel we have done a great job of meeting their needs.”

AS SEEN ON MY DESK

rhodes
I rode quite a bit with David Rhodes in the late 80s and early 90s. He was a rocket out of Washington state, his mom and dad always look care of me at the races and treated yours truly like family. Here’s David, Husaberg mounted at the Australian ISDE.

Love this shot that somehow came across my desk of Brad Lackey and his World Championship winning RM500, equipped with a Simons UDX Upside down fork and an Ohlins shock.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

Coalinga National Enduro, circa 2007. It dumped the entire night, thankfully Adam and I stayed with our dentist Jeff Petron in his coach and the race turned into a full gnarly run. I did ok, got lost on loop one but came back to do decent in my class. Adam raced a CRF150R and did superbly.

This was two weeks ago following a bi-lateral knee replacement for yours truly. The knees were junk and it made doing anything fun (moto-golf-MTB) virtually impossible. It was a pretty wicked first two weeks, but incredibly they get you up quick and make you push it. I just finished a round of Physical Therapy and did my first 360 degree revolution on the bicycle. That was huge! Anyway, like any dirt bike grueler I’m jonsing to get back in the saddle. For the next few months it’ll all be about work, rehab and that dangling carrot of riding. I’ll keep you posted. tw
