THE WEEKLY FEED: RICKY DIETRICH HAMMERING HAVASU

HISTORY LESSON

WORCS:2008 LAKE HAVASU

Ricky Dietrich was a force in the WORCS series and was locked in a season long battle with Bobby Bonds. Lake Havasu’s brutal track stressed the racers fitness and sand riding strengths to the limit. Ricky ended up second behind Bobby Garrison.
Kurt Caselli was the reigning number one and switched to his 300 2-stroke for the Havasu circuit. It ended up that the big 4-strokes used less energy to stay up on top of the whoops, so Kurt struggled. He ended up fifth for the day.

Taylor Robert was emerging as a top talent. While he was bested by Josh Morros at Havasu, Taylor dominated the years action in the Pro 2 class and won the title.

JCR’s Timmy Weigand eneded up 8th, finishing behind Sean Collier and Robby Bell. Tim is now the head of Husqvarna’s off-road racing squad.

Damon Huffman was resurrecting his career with a full ticket ride from Team Green, who was a major force in WORCS racing at the time. Damon ended up third for the day. Today Officer Huffman is a Sheriff.

PICS AND PANS

Mark Kariya is just about everywhere off-road and his recent National Hare and Hound shots were irritatingly stellar. Here’s a few that just tickled my fancy. Kato is the best shooter out there.

Taylor Robert continues his quest from the hospital bed to one of the most dominant and versatile racers in the states.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

As we’re sitting in a pool of sweat dealing with 109 degree temps this shot brings thoughts of cooler times. It’s 1980 and I’m testing a Can-Am 250 Qualifier up the hills above Phelan. I was still racing for Kolbe Cycles and proudly donned their classic jersey.
