SIDI’S REVOLUTIONARY CROSSFIRE 3…is almost here!

 image002

CROSSFIRE 3 SRS is the evolution of the motocross boot which has won more awards than any other footwear in the off-road market. To produce this remarkable boot, the Sidi team made full use of all of its experience, professionalism and passion, combining research from the people who work in our laboratories with the feedback coming from our champions.

In a race, when you are testing the limits, the difference lies in the details. Boots are an essential element, since they are the main connection between the body and the bike, between man and machine. The boot must be sensitive, in order to best assist the movements of the feet; yet they must also be strong, to protect the foot from impacts and falls, all while remaining light and comfortable to wear. Performance starts here…

The new CROSSFIRE 3 SRS boot will be revealed and presented by Sidi over the following weeks through a series of micro videos, which will introduce the features and technical details of this innovative boot, step by step.

Öhlins TTX FLOW

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-17-03-am

TTX Flow Technology

We started with a clean sheet of paper in designing this new ground breaking shock absorber. With our TTX Technology and patent pending internal pressure regulation, this new shock is a huge step forward compared to previous models. We retained our TTX (Twin Tube) Technology but worked extensively on a new ‘check-valve’ system to balance wide valve openings and quick open/close actions to handle a large volume of oil flow. The new system cancels out the smaller hits and keeps the chassis stable for the big jump. The test riders found that this was one major improvement, as was the stability of the bike over ‘braking bumps’ which absorbs the harsh hits and does not make the rear wheel go light.

TTX Flow Benefits

You will feel that the response is quicker, more consistent and more predictable than ever before, allowing the TTX Flow to deliver a smoother roll on bumpy terrain which calms down the chassis for corner entry and eases the bikes handling through turns. It’s almost like the shock absorber is communicating while you’re racing, sensing your next move! Without any trade-offs, the TTX Flow excels in all areas compared to previous models. The TTX Flow gives the bike improved traction, comfort and predictability which enhance the stability of the bike. It’s also easy to adjust to find the perfect setting for the track and riding style. The result is clearly felt by the rider when cutting seconds from previous lap times and still riding in the safest way possible.

POWER REEDS FROM www.ktmandhusky.com

img_1010
This is a reed that is not sealing properly.
img_1018
These are the new wider Power Reeds, they seal better, improve jetting and give you a power increase.

The new 2017 KTM and Husky 2 stroke engines are more advanced than ever before. However, one area of performance that is still a weak spot is the reeds, and more specifically, the sealing of the reeds.

As you can see the light shown through the reed petal shows how bad the leakage is. And this is just one side. It’s interesting that the 2017 motors have new reed cages, over the leaky assemblies of 2014-16, but still have the same reeds.

The new Power Reeds available at www.ktmandhusky.com, fix the majority of the sealing issue. Made from a new material, which is being used by the top outboard boat racing two stroke engines, the reeds not only respond better, but last longer than the super thin carbon fiber stock reeds.

The new reeds are wider, which gives them more sealing area.  A side benefit to the reeds is, the new Mikuni carbs are much easier to jet now, which is one of the biggest complaints of the new set ups.

Price is $69.95 from www.ktmandhusky.com

(they have acquired BestDualSportBikes.com, if there is any confusion here.)

ELECTRIC BIKE WINS VET CLASS AT PHOENIX ENDUROCROSS

dsc_6285
Kurt Nicoll, mounted on an Alta Motors Redshift MX won the vet class at Round 4 of the EnduroCross series. The win is a first for Alta on the national level, and the first for an electric motorcycle in the EnduroCross series. Alta Motors has been developing their Redshift electric motorcycle platform since 2010 and only just began serial production in 2016 of the Redshift MX. Their belief in the machines ability to have finer throttle control, improved traction and a constant delivery of peak torque from 0-35mph of its 65mph top speed is what helped fueled the decision to race the Endurocross. This is all happens without a clutch or traditional transmission, freeing the rider to concentrate on riding the course and not the bike.

“I don’t miss having a clutch, the main advantage the Alta has over the gas bike is that the power is absolutely instant, and when you’re stuck in the rocks or the matrix, you need that power,” says Kurt Nicoll.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

I really loved the early Casey races. They were tight and technical for desert events and in the early days he offered good payback to the Expert racers. This is Whiskey Pete’s 1987 and as you can seethe snow on ground it was cold. I raced this pretty much stock CR250 and it still rates as one of favorite doit-all machines that I’ve raced.
