BLAST FROM THE PAST

scan0004-1
Larry Roeseler was the catalyst for my hunger to ride the ISDE. In 1986 the event was held in Bergamo, Italy and I was fortunate enough to ride chase for LR. That meant that I followed him for six days carrying every legal spare part and tool on my body, just in case he needed something. LR took his liquid cooled Husky 510 to a Gold Medal and was Top American, which was a big thing back then. It really showed how good the rest of the world was at this competition. And now there is no ‘Top American’ there is the winner. And we have won the individual honor two years in a row.

PINCHED FROM THE SOCIAL DUDES

Larry Langley was one of my mentors into the enduro world and he racked up a pretty good resume racing!

Malcolm Smith Racing Hard Parts Collection Has T-Handles

msr-hardparts-24

What’s in your tool box? A claw hammer, dried-out JB Weld and an old ratchet with half the sockets missing isn’t going to cut it when you finally get around to that routine maintenance you put off all summer long! While the legendary Malcolm Smith might have been able to beat Baja and stay on gold medal pace at Six Days with nothing more than bailing wire, duct tape and a plug wrench, the rest of us need some real tools to get the job done. Enter Malcolm Smith Racing Hard Parts T-Handles.

The mass of a T-Handle creates a flywheel effect to more efficiently spin the wrench, while the handle itself offers added leverage to break loose stubborn nuts and bolts. Deep six-point sockets in the most common sizes should make it possible to make just about any repair short of splitting the cases.

Features for the MSR Hard Parts T-Handles include:

  • Chrome vanadium tool steel construction for corrosion resistance and durability
  • Includes 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 17mm socket sizes, as well as #3 Phillips
  • Comes with heavy duty vinyl carrying case
  • MSRP $46.95

AEROSTICH MINI AIR COMPRESSOR

screen-shot-2016-11-02-at-10-08-00-am

This is the smallest, lightest compressor we carry and one of the most efficient you’ll find for its size. This stripped-down mini fits in the palm of your hand and will inflate any motorcycle tire in a couple minutes. When a larger compressor is too much bulk to carry along, and CO2 cartridges aren’t nearly enough for your trip, this dedicated pump will deliver continuous pressure without fail. What it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in performance – which is what you really need when you’re flat stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Has a nice long 26″ inflator hose, 6′ power cord, and packs small in included storage sack. Comes with three adaptors: SAE, cigarette lighter and alligator clips. Lock-down delivery valve fits all bikes. Also comes with carabiner clip, so you can attach the compressor to whatever you want out of the way and off the ground, instead of having it lay in the mud or dirt. Simple, compact, and dependable peace of mind. Pump is 3.5″×3.5″×.9″. Packs to 7″×5″×3″, 1.3 lb.

Price : $50.00

My buddy Jon Miller, always superb form and here testing a 1976 Maico AW for the mag. Mark Kiel froze the action.

Charlie Beck is a full moto head, and happens to be L.A.s Chief of Police. This last weekend he snuck out for the first wet dirt of the season and with a group of his buddies and end up crashing. His pelvis took the hit, I texted back and forth and he’s fine and home. He’s also bummed that he can’t ride for 2 months! How cool is it to have our top law enforcement officer a dirt biker?

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

img_0179
This was a great race, Washington state ISDE Quailfier, 1994. I was riding my 501 Husaberg, which had Marzocchi forks, plus Honda wheels and brakes. It was the first time in my life that I actually spent quite a bit of time riding a 4-stroke and this sucker was fast, rarely flamed out and was light. I had just turned the big 40 and won an AMA #1 plate for winning the ISDE Qualfiier 4-class. Yee haw.
