BLAST FROM THE PAST: JIMMY JARRETT OMA CHAMPION

Jimmy Jarrett, Factory Suzuki mounted in 2008 and winning his fourth OMA Championship.

Jimmy Jarrett dominated the OMA series, winning the championship 4-times (2004-2008). He campaigned on privateer Suzuki, then Factory Suzuki in 2008 (photo), Geico/Monster Kawasaki and Geico Honda and then set his sights on competing for Team USA in the ISDE where he was a 6-time Gold Medalist. JJ moved to Idaho in 2012, retiring from off-road racing until he tried a Timbersled snow bike conversion kit and was hooked. He won the 2016 Flashpoint National Snow Bike Championship Series, then won the AMA series title in 2017 and entered the 2018 finale in a 3-way tie for the title losing to Josh Hill. Just last week he showed up at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross Championship and won the Senior (45+) division racing a KTM.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

Well, we ran a great shot of my buddy Jimmy Jarrett winning an OMA championship for Factory Suzuki in 2008, and this photo is yours truly, racing JJ’s Geico Honda CRF450 in 2011 at an OMA event. While Jimmy was very successful on this machine, I struggled mightily on race day (it rained substantially the prior night) and the course was greased snot. It was nearly impossible to ride at low RPMs, and would flame out about 200 times leaving me gassed. When I asked Jimmy how he dealt with that facet of the machine, he said “go faster”. That’s a Mark Kariya photo!
