THE WEEKLY FEED: GREAT RACING PHOTOS!

CAPTURED

Close quarters- This is where I love Social Media. My friends find photos that scream of our dirt bike heritage and racing. Too close for comfort is my tag and these are some of the great photos that still chill the blood.

Charlie Morey’s shot from the first turn at the 1976 Daytona Supercross shows Tony D with the holeshot, the Jammer Jimmy Weinert carving in like a madman and Steve Stackable grabbing the stops trying to avoid Weinert’s wild dive.

Marvin Musquin and Ryan Dungey share the same air in a Supercross rhythm section. DeCoster must have been hemorrhaging!

Heikki Mikkola and Gerrit Wolsink’s battled at the Carlsbad USGP to the last corner of the 45-minute moto!

Jeremy Seewer goes flat hunting down Paul Jonass in MXGP 2racing.

Jack Burnicle, one of the best motocross photographers on the planet captured David Bailey and Mark Barnett racing tight at the Motocross des Nations during another USA bit of domination.

Paul Buckley is renowned for his camera skills and this shot of Mike Kiedrowski and Jeff Stanton battling at Southwick in 1993 exemplifies their dislike for each other.

Charlie Morey snared one of the best racing photos ever when captured Jimmy Weinert stuffing both limbs and machine into Tony D while they both struggled to use the same line exiting the berm. It doesn’t get any better than this!

NEWS

Important Schedule Date Changes
The FIM has updated the ISDE dates for the 2019 Season. With that, there was an overlap with the NEPG season finale in Oklahoma. This also created a conflict with the GNCC Schedule. The NEPG contacted the clubs affected and have been able to work with them to reschedule two of the previously announced NEPG 2019 Enduro dates without any conflicts.  The Missouri Mudders has graciously moved Round 8 in Park Hills, Missouri from September 15th to September 8th, 2019. The Tulsa Trail Riders in Oklahoma has graciously moved from November 10th to October 20th 2019.  The NEPG is fortunate that the clubs we partner with to make the AMA National Enduro Series the success it is, understand the struggle with scheduling and have done an excellent job with us to make all these schedules work for the upcoming 2019 off-road season. We are apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused anyone but the NEPG feels is the best solution for all those racing and supporting the various AMA off-road racing series’.

ON THE TRAIL

First rain- Full contingent- Trail drama

Last weekend So Cal got its first sneezing from the heavens and we had a major turnout for a trail ride. A big glug of my buddies, brothers, racers and heroes dotted our camp zone. It didn’t suck.

Beta’s Chance Fullerton came out and showed all us old coots what fast really is!
Hapa brought out his trick HQV 300, BP pretended to be a linebacker sized Graham Jarvis and others enjoyed the scenery.

Beta’s Rodney Smith, one of the America’s best off-road racers ever showed up and rode his Beta RR double, with his girlfriend! Many of the group had trouble with the huge hills and watching some dude ride up with a passenger was deflating! Unfortunately Rodney broke the chain on his machine and it took us a while to get things fixed.
First we had to find a chain breaker-then we had to find a master link! Jason McCune had a Motion Pro breaker in his pack, and a master link! Daryl Hambleton and Hapa grind it out to fix the snapped chain.

Without this Motion Pro chain breaker we would have had to tow Rodney back some 15-miles!

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

The USA ISDE in 1994 wasn’t one of my best weeks. My machine, pretty much a factory 501 Husaberg ran quite a bit different than the one I raced in the Qualifier series. It was far gnarlier, barking and spitting rather than the smooth big power that I was used to. The biggest drama came in that it constantly flamed out and would blow the carburetor right out of the manifold. I ended up houring out on day two and spent the next four days chase riding for my buddy Dick Burleson. DB was racing 13 years after his official retirement.  At the age of 46, Burleson earned a silver medal in the event and became the only American to ride in both American ISDT/E’s. The AMA recognized that accomplishment by naming him Amateur Athlete of the Year for a record third time.
With the Tecate Enduro running last weekend (congrats to Gary Sutherlin and his win!) here’s my memory of the 1990 version. This always rated as one of the best events of the year !
