BLAST FROM THE PAST

mike-hannon
“The bike is Pomeroy’s California GP bike. Skip Kreps had it stored in his Bay Area Bultaco dealership. If I’m not mistaken it was for the article in Dirt Bike. What’s it like to ride a GP Bultaco? I’m thinking somewhere around ’74 or ’75. The’ 76 had different forks and shock mounting. Jims bike did have rear suspension modifications. One that came to mind was beefed up swing arm. He would bend the stock one after they moved the shocks forward. Thanks, Mike Hannon.”

Mike raced for Factory Bultaco and Factory Honda Off-Road in the 70’s and was always a threat to win anytime the racing was on the west coast.

Coming off his first win of the season last weekend, Sutherlin had his eyes on the top spot at round 3 of the WORCS series. With rain in the forecast he was well prepared for a mudder. “I pulled the holeshot but made a couple mistakes which dropped me back to 3rd.” Sutherlin moved up to 2nd and settled behind 1st place, Blayne Thompson. “I was 10 seconds behind him when he had an unfortunate bike issue. I took over 1st and just put the hammer down to the finish where I had a good gap.” With too muddy of a course, WORCS had to find alternate routes which added a lot fast, choppy and slick sections. “They added stuff that we didn’t practice on Friday, but they did the best they could with the circumstances they were under. For as bad as the conditions were on Friday, the course was really good 45 minutes into the race, I enjoyed it.” With today’s win, Sutherlin extends his points lead in the WORCS series even more. “It feels good to finally get a WORCS win this season, I just need to keep putting in the work for the weekends.” Sutherlin’s next race will be Round 3 of Big 6 at Glen Helen.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

Screen Shot 2017-02-20 at 8.37.58 AM
Wow, found this on Instagram. Seems like it was 5-minutes ago that we were testing this ’85 XR600 at Gorman. Thanks to Tony Blazier for posting it. Of interest, I enjoyed this machine in spite of the fact that I was a full 2-stroke enduro guy. It’s strength was faster terrain but we’d all come to learn through Scott Summers that you could win in the woods if you were—gnarly!
