THE WEEKLY FEED: DICK BURLESON ENDURO HERO, CRASH AND BURN SPECIAL

FROZEN

Dick Burleson won eight straight Nationall Enduro titles, which is still a record that stands today. His last two were tough, since the competition had gotten intense- inside his own camp. Terry Cunningham and Mike Melton were just starting their careers, while DB was at the end of his. Both worked for Husky and were under Dicks tutelage and both wanted to beat him badly. This photo was from the Tulsa National Enduro in 1981. Dick raced an XC250 and new for that year was the 40mm fork and refined piggy back outboard mounted Ohlins shocks.

CRASH AND BURN

Mark Kariya, arguably one of the top off-road photographers on the planet captured some nefarious action at the infamous water jump at the Adelanto GP several years ago. The jump is high speed, has a lipped and usually rutted take off and getting enough air to clear the ever lengthening water hole is crucial. Come up short and the impact forces consequences that tests the riders ability to ‘Hold on’.

JUST COOL

TFant captured Christian Craig at the last weeks Slat Lake SX pounding one of the double section of whoops at the track.

GNCC SERIES ADDS ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKES!
Fantic eMTNB Racing to the Action

The AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC),  announced the addition of Fantic eMTNB bicycle races to the already action-packed weekend schedule at the following four rounds:

The Electric bike races will be held Friday afternoon and will feature 6 classes, with no pre-qualifying: Pro, Schoolboy (12-18), Junior (19-29), Vet (30-39), Senior (40-49), Masters (50+) and Women. Races will be one hour events, with laps approximately three miles in length. The race course will be challenging, featuring many traditional GNCC-style obstacles, i.e., hills, rocks, woods sections, etc.

Class 1 Pedal Assist Bicycles with a motor powered speed of 20 mph and motor wattage of <=750 watts eligible only. The entry fee is $30 and awards will be given at the rate of 1 per 3, with a minimum of 3 per class. Transponder scoring will be used; transponders can be rented or purchased at the events.

“The addition of eMTNB racing to GNCC is a logical advancement as we move into the next new chapter of GNCC Racing,” explained GNCC Trail Boss, Jeff Russell. “Last year the series allowed eMTNB bikes for pre-race course inspection and their popularity exploded. Just makes sense to add them to the weekend’s festivities. That’s what we do… we race!” added Russell.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

In 1981 Honda pulled off a show stopper with the introduction of their new water-cooled CR250. The single shocked machine was the first liquid cooled motocrosser from Honda and was a kick start to the long travel, water cooled world. It had a weird swoopy from numberplate, a decent powerband and suspension that wasn’t quite up to snuff with the Yamaha YZ250, which was still air-cooled but handled superbly.
