BLAST FROM THE PAST
Darrell Shultz
Northern California’s Darrell Shultz raced on the professional circuit for a meager 5-years (1977-1982). He was painted as a racer with incredible speed, though interrupted by a myriad of injuries. His nemesis growing up was Danny Chandler and much of his grit and wildness came with frequent duals in their local motocross events.
Darrell started as a privateer racing Maico’s, got signed by Suzuki in 1979 and in two years his results were both stellar, and grim due to injury. He won the 1981 Daytona Supercross, was third in the Trans-AMA series when Honda came sniffing. Darrell repeated at Daytona, punctured a lung while practicing (and was leading the 500 class series) only to end up in the hospital. He released himself, raced the final two events beat up and won the Open Class National Championship. Injuries (3 more knee surgeries) forced him to retire and he never got to race with the #1 plate he earned in 1982. Thank you Mark Kiel for 1979 Sears Point Trans AM photo!

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY
In 1996 Suzuki came out with a new RM250 fit with a bunch of new features and a conventional fork. DeCoster had just come back to the team, they signed Jeremy McGrath and this machine, a very focused and phenomenoly suspended scoot for the masses, didn’t work well on the Supercross circuit. The Wolf dug it, McGrath struggled and Suzuki ditched the fork in 1999.
