BLAST FROM THE PAST: Charlie Mullins-Team Suzuki Off-Road

The Unadilla GNCC, circa 2009. One of the top talents at that time was Charlie Mullins. He was in his second year with Suzuki finishing 5th in the GNCC chase in ’08 and 3rd in 2009. This hill at Unadilla was flat gnarly, rocky, very root infested and littered with lappers. Here’s Charlie getting a hand from Rodney Smith and the Team Manager Mike Webb. Charlie went on to win a National Enduro Championship for Yamaha in 2010, and again for KTM the next year. In 2013 he took home his first GNCC title, again on a KTM. His career was cut short in 2014   when he had a mechanical problem testing  and destroyed his wrist. He was a  serious threat anytime the trail got nasty and tight.

SHAYNA TEXTER WINS FOR RED BULL/KTM  AT TEXAS HALF-MILE

It was a breakthrough weekend for the brand-new Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Flat Track Team as rider Shayna Texter earned her first AFT Singles Main Event victory of the season – the team’s first-ever – on Saturday at the Texas Half-Mile for Round 3 of the 2019 American Flat Track Championship. Her teammate, Dan Bromley, battled his way to a top-ten finish with ninth overall for the night.

JD JETTING TMX MIKUNI JET BLOCK GASKET KIT FOR KTM AND HQV 2-STROKES

JD Jetting just announced their new gasket & O-ring repair kit parts and extended air screws for the new KTM/Husky 2-strokes running the TMX carbs. These are having gasket failures present over half the time now. The original TMX “jet-block”gasket expands and shrinks with fuel exposure until failure occurs. The fuel inlet float needle-seat also has an O-ring that often fails to seal. Both of these issues are transparently degrading the new bike’s performance when riding. The replacements are both improved parts that are thicker and seal better. The O-rings are a Viton with thicker cross-section, so need a little grease to slide into place during installation. A 2nd (spare) O-ring is included for future use, or if damaged during install/inspection.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

I just found this shot from the 1979 Tecate 500 Enduro. It was a 2-day event, 250 miles per day! At the time I was loving my Can-Am 370 Qualifier, but on day two, while in the hunt I flatted and houred out. This event was a tough one, long grueling days, big time mileage and the majority of it trail. In order to make the gas stops we (Andy Kolbe) fit on a skinny/fat Vesco tank and I actually back packed it carrying far too many spares and none of them were a tube! It took me ten years to finally get some decent finishes and a handful of trophies from the Tecate Enduro. And I treasure them!
