BLAST FROM THE PAST: Kurt the legend

Wiley Watson made some great dirt bike videos, and one of his favorite subjects was Kurt Caselli. What !f showcases Kurt along with Kyle Redmond, Kailub Russell, Taylor Robert and Russell Bobbitt and looks at their athleticism in their chosen dirt bike path. Caselli 66- Ride the Dream showcases Kurt after we lost him in 2013. It’s a great tribute to an American off-road legend. Of note, Wiley is a serious photographer as well, the shot above is his as he captured Kurt pummeling the desert at unreal speeds.

My buddy Dan Dawson was a gnarly man. He was a gifted rider, as tough as leather and hugely compassionate. He and I were neighbors and rode together a ton. I captured him testing a Dicks Racing Beta 350 dual sport machine back in 2012. We lost Dan a few years later and I miss him every day! He was a rebel!

A stellar shot from Mark Kiel of reigning World Champion Heikki Mikkola on this factory Yamaha. He won ’77 500cc World Championship with 12 victories (DeCoster was second) and followed this in 1978 with a dominant season winning his 5th World Championship (Brad Lackey finished second).

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

This is 2012 and I’m testing a Pro Circuit Husaberg 300. Bones setup Showa suspension fore and aft, PC clamps and I threw on some Flexx Bars. Normally aspirated back then, the 300 was still stunning in tight, nasty terrain. My good friend Karel Kramer shot this in a cobby high desert canyon.
