Mike Kiedrowski’s nine-year motocross career ranks as one of the best ever. Between 1988 and 1997, he won four National Motocross championships. Mike is one of only two riders in AMA Motocross history to win the “hat trick” of 125cc, 250cc and 500cc AMA Motocross National Championships. Kiedrowski was also a member of four U.S. Motocross des Nations teams. He retired from racing after the 1997 season. Mike got into the construction industry like his dad when Mike Webb (Manager of Team Suzuki Off-road) and Shane Nalley (his mechanic during his motocross career, working for Team Suzuki Off-road) kicked around the idea of coaxing him into racing the GNCC series. Suzuki had just released the DRZ400 and wanted Webb and his team to campaign it in the GNCC’s. Shane and Webb and convinced him to race off road. According to MWebb “we raced a pretty trick DRZ with a full Yosh engine package and works Showa suspension, but the bike was far too heavy for the eastern mud and trees. Mike learned the ropes of off-road and the following year we ran FMF RM250’s in the GNCC’s and the full blown DRZ’s in the newly formed WORCS series out west. Although MK never won a GNCC, he had numerous podiums and would win the WORCS championship the first 2 years.” Mike also became one of the few riders in history to race both the Motocross des Nations and the ISDE, where he won a Gold Medal.

Twebb aboard his 501 Husaberg at the 1994 ISDE held in Oklahoma. I struggled hard, having raced qualifiers for years on the brutal ranch I knew that the race would be tough. I had some fork drama early on, fixed that and midway through day two my Factory ‘Berg started coughing, flaming out and kept blowing the carburetor out of the intake manifold. At one point it was swinging like it was looped on a hangman’s noose. Eventually I houred out. Not happy, especially since I had a great Qualifier series and a championship in the 40-class. Oh well, quit sniveling you coot!
