BLAST FROM THE PAST: 1972 Carlsbad Trans AMA

Ake Jonsson and Pierre Karsmakers were two elite European racers who came to Edison Dye inspired Inter Am series that was a show case for the Euros versus the American motocrossers. The AMA’s version was the Trans AMA series and up to this point, no American had won a single event. Ake dominated 1972’s series winning 9 events and this one here at Carlsbad. Pierre Karsmakers ended up seventh overall and the Top American was Brad Lackey mounted on a Kawasaki.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

When KTM came out with the first ‘real’ 300 it was a game changer for me. I loved this machine and ended up qualifying for the ISDE team in ’91. My only changes were a tall Tecnosel seat kit, a rear shark fin and suspension that Tom Moen valved for me.
