JIM POMEROY: Bultaco master and GP winner

Jim Pomeroy made his AMA debut in 1970 at the Washington round of the Trans-AMA motocross series. Jim won the 1972 opening round of the AMA Motocross championships at Saddleback Park, which captured the eye of the Bultaco factory, and earned him factory level support. This morphed into a ride in Europe to compete in the GPs, which was the true test of motocross. The 23-year-old Pomeroy stunned the GP world by racing his Bultaco to the win at none other than the Spanish GP! This electrified America which was just entering a huge explosion of growth in motocross, a sport dominated by the Europeans. Jim raced for Bultaco until 1976, switched to the Honda powerhouse American effort until 1978. Pomeroy retired in 1980 and unfortunately was killed in a car accident in 2006. Bimbo will go down in infamy as the first American to ever win a motocross GP!
