ANAHEIM, CA ? Nobody?s denying that off road motorcycle racers, motorcycle racers in general for that matter, are a tough breed. But to go under the knife, have a rod inserted to help mend a shattered collarbone, AND, go out and ride less than a week after your surgery is about as hardcore as it gets.

Welcome to the ever-intense world of Grand National Cross Country Series legend Scott Summers.

‘I?m just hoping that all of the effort I?m putting into this pays off and that I?ll be able to be on the bike this weekend in Tennessee,’ said Summers. ‘Part of being a professional athlete is overcoming adversity and staying focused on championships. And sometimes that means dealing with the pain of injury.

‘When you get hurt on a race day there?s nothing you can do about it and, sometimes, the pain of the DNF hurts worse. So you never want to lose a championship sitting home on the couch if you can help it.’

Summers, under the watchful eye of Jeff Spencer, was put back together last Wednesday (April 7th) by the world renown Dr. Ting. ‘A lot of people have been working very hard along with me the last few months and I don?t want to let them down,’ added Summers. ‘I know there will be a lot of Honda and Scott Summers fans at Loretta Lynn?s GNCC and I?m doing my best this week to overcome the pain and get to where I can put in a good ride at Lorettas.’

The GNCC Series returns to action at Loretta Lynn?s Ranch (Tenn.) this weekend, April 17-18. Summer was in third place in the GNCC championship points chase before his DNF (Big Buck) and still remains in sixth place overall in the GNCC standings.

Summers? sponsors include: Parts Unlimited, Moose, Smith Sport, Suomy Helmets, Alpinestars, FMF, Honda Rider’s Club of America, Pro Honda Oils & Chemicals, Honda Genuine Brakes, Maxxis Tires, Tire Balls, Wiseco, Tag, EK Chain, Cycra, Motion Pro, Sunstar, Factory Effex, Falicon Crankshafts, Steahly, PC Racing, Factory Connection.
