ROUND #10: GNCC SERIES–WOODFORD TAKES THE WIN-9/9 |
Extreme dust greeted the riders making passing difficult at best, and with the exception of Steve Hatch, very few riders made moves through the pack. It was Team Yamaha’s Jason Raines first race back after breaking his leg and the series points leader gallantly finished the event, garnering 19th overall (13th in the Pro division). In a move to challenge Raines, Suzuki’s Rodney Smith tallied a second overall putting on a charge during the mid point of the John Penton GNCC and closed up a minute and forty second lead that Woodford had built up. But Smith couldn’t overcome the vision problems and took second place. His second place points closed up the gap behind Raines to a mere 8 points! The John Penton GNCC also marks one of the few times in GNCC history that a race was shortened because of weather. It finished at 2 hours and 15 minutes. |
