MX Sports Revises Pro Sport Class Eligibility Rule |
The 2007 AMA Amateur Supplemental Rules state that riders who earned professional points or a professional national number in motocross or supercross for the current or previous year are not eligible to compete in the national program. That rule was published after the riders competed in those pro races, however, so the riders were not aware that they were sacrificing their eligibility when they competed in the events. The revised supplemental rules reestablish amateur eligibility for riders that competed in a pro race in 2006 only, not those that competed in AMA professional supercross or motocross events in 2007. “It came to our attention that several amateur prospects raced a few pro nationals late last summer, and they were losing their eligibility without prior knowledge,” said MX Sports Director, Tim Cotter. “At the time that these riders competed, the 2007 rule had not been posted yet. We will make this rule retroactive to the previous year only. The revised rules six and seven read as follows (changes in italics): 6. The following riders may only enter the A/Pro Sport classes at the National -Riders earning AMA Pro Racing points in the Motocross or Motocross Lites class in the previous year (2006) -Riders qualifying for a Toyota AMA Arenacross Main Event (AMA Arenacross Class only) in the current or previous year. The AMA Arenacross Lites class is not considered a pro class. -Riders qualifying for a BooKoo Arenacross Main Event (250F or 450F pro classes) in the current or previous year. -Riders qualifying for a FIM Motocross Grand Prix event (MX1, MX2 and MX3 classes) in the current or previous year. 7. The following riders are not eligible to participate in the National program. -Riders earning AMA Pro Racing points (MX or MX Lites class) in the current year (2007) -Riders earning AMA Pro Racing points in the AMA Supercross or Supercross Lites class in the current or previous year. -Riders earning an AMA Pro Racing national number in Motocross or Supercross for the current or previous year. |
