MR. KNOW-IT-ALL: OLD WIVES TALES

ELEVATION MISNOMERS

Dear Mr. Know-it-all,

My dealer told me that when I ride at different elevations, I need to let my fuel-injected bike idle for 10 minutes so that it can pick up the different settings and adjust. Is that true?

That’s one of those wives tales that has grown like an ugly mole and is big bag of unsubstantiated ‘crap’. If that were true why is it you don’t you stop at every altitude change on you ride and let it idle for while you listen the Woodstock version of ‘Going Home’. Here’s the skinny, the fuel-injection adjusts as SOON as you start your bike and will adjust to changing elevations and temps as you ride.
