McGRATH PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF

McGRATH PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF

Saturday was the first round of the 2001 Pace Supercross series, but it might as well have been any round from last year. Jeremy McGrath won, making it look easy. In his heat, he had a hard time with Suzuki’s newest addition, Kevin Windham. Windham actually pulled off that win, hinting of a new world order in the near future. But the only riders to give McGrath a hard time in the main were Kawasaki’s Stephane Roncada and Honda’s Ezra Lusk. The 125 race was much more world shattering with Ernesto Fonseca winning on a YZ250F four-stroke. This marks the first time anyone has taken advantage of the rules that allow a thumper more displacement in the 125 class, and only the second time in history that a four-stroke has won a supercross main event. Most viewers agreed, though, that Fonseca won because he rode well, not because of any horsepower advantage. Suzuki rider Danny Smith was second.
