LUCKY #4 IN VEGAS FOR RC’S HONDA DEBUT–OCT 14

LUCKY #4 IN VEGAS FOR RC?S HONDA DEBUT–OCT 14

First we heard that Ricky broke his leg. Then it was rumored that there were concerns whether Team Honda and Carmichael had had enough time to do the type of testing and bike set-up necessary to compete in Vegas. After all, he hadn?t been on the bike 10 times before the gate was to drop in THQ?s $100,000 U.S. Open of Motocross. When the weekend concluded and the roost settled however, there was little doubt as to who will once again be the man to beat for the 2002 Supercross title.

A sold out MGM arena watched on Friday as RC grabbed the hole shot and never looked back as he tore up the field en route to a $100,000 payday. Even though Carmichael (1-1) looked dominating on Friday night, and continued it on through Saturday evening (winning both motos), the competition looked fierce and hungry.   Tim Ferry, Mike LaRocco, Kevin Windham, and Jeremy McGrath all looked good in race two, and were it not for a first turn crash that involved all of them (minus K-Dub), the race results could have been far different.

Much of the buzz in Sin City surrounded Showtime, and what looked to be a new and improved Jeremy McGrath; the rumors of his demise apparently having been greatly exaggerated. He looked to be in phenomenal condition and ready to prove that a new king has yet to be crowned. McGrath went 4-2, for a second overall, and got the $35,000 check for his troubles.

Another Vegas surprise was Snowmobiler Blair Morgan, who won both motos of the four-stroke race on Honda?s new CRF.
