HUGHES GIVES NEW HONDA ITS FIRST U.S. WIN-APRIL 22
Ryan Hughes and his prototype Honda four-stroke were last-minute surprise entries in the White Bros. Four-Stroke World Championship at Glen Helen Raceway, Sunday. The Honda wasn’t the race bike that Hughes will ride in the Nationals, but rather a well-worn test ‘mule’ that has already undergone extensive production testing in recent weeks. It was good enough, though, to win by almost a minute in both motos over reigning thumper champ Doug Dubach. Lance Smail and Spud Walters took turns in third place, with Walters getting the nod in the final moto. Hero status goes to Michael Brandes, who took on the field of 426s, 450s and 520s with his YZ250F and finished fourth. Hughes considered this race a good warm up for the Glen Helen National next month.
