GLEN HELEN 24 HOUR THIS WEEKEND
The Dirt Bike staff will be hard at work all week laying out the course for the 24 Hours of Glen Helen, which has become Southern California’s most anticipated off-road event. Lori Bryant, manager of Glen Helen, just got the word that the San Bernardino Sheriff’s EVOC training center will be available, which means that the course will be over 10 miles long. It will include some of the famous and infamous features that have challenged riders in the Six and 12 Hour races. One of the most notorious is Screwy Louie, the seemingly endless spiral that was introduced in the Six Hour this year. It will be bypassed on the first lap to avoid bottlenecks, as will the steel shipyard bridge. Riders will also get to go around the concert amphitheater. And toward the end of each lap, all the riders will face an EnduroCross section that will have no alternate route.
This is a genuine off-road race and it will have real off-road sections of single track. A few will be virgin trails for this event. As you might guess, there will also be trails that have been used previously, but with the recent rainfall, we were able to repair some of the more heavily used sections, so they will be fresh for the event and still not too dusty. Lori reports that over 200 riders have already pre-entered, so it should be a great event.
