250 MX BIKES ON THE DYNO

The 2018 250 MX Shootout is finally complete and the KTM 250SX-F is the winner. If you haven’t seen the 2018 250 Shootout video, click here to watch it. When that video was released, we still had more testing to do, including all the dyno runs. As soon as all the riding was done, the bikes were sent to the FMF lab for a date with their Dynojet dynamometer. All the bikes were set to their standard map, and the runs were all made on the same day under the same conditions.

This is the graphic result. Horsepower readings have solid line, torque is dashed lines. Usually, the results hold no surprises. We already knew that the KTM and Husqvarna were almost identical to each other and that they were far more powerful than the others on top. We also knew that the dyno doesn’t do justice to the Yamaha, which performs much better down low than the graph shows. This is because dyno runs are performed with the throttle wide open, whereas the Yamaha does extremely well with partial throttle openings. The Honda is the only bike we had never tested before. Like the Yamaha, it performs much better down low than is shown here. WEST HARE SCRAMBLE WRAP-UP

Trystan Hart and Max Gerston had a busy weekend. Both rode the West Hare Scramble final round in Wilseyville, California right after finishing the Super EnduroCross finals in Ontario on Saturday night. That’s 600 miles of travel. For both it was worthwhile. Hart won his third Hare Scramble and Gerston won the championship with a fourth-place finish.

2018 OFF-ROAD CHAMPIONS

With last week’s Super EnduroCross finals, almost all of the off-road championships have wrapped up for 2017. The exceptions are some regional races. In the AMA D37 Desert points, Nick Burson is way out front. In District 37 Big 6 GP racing,  Zach Bell has a big lead. Both of those are important because they are the most attended motorcycles races venues in the country, even though they are regional events. As for national championships, the 2017 wall of champions looks like this:

GOMEZ TO HUSQVARNA

Husqvarna Motorcycles are proud to announce the signing of Alfredo Gomez, with the Spaniard joining the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team ahead of the start of the 2018 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship.

Following an impressive season of Hard Enduro racing throughout 2017, Alfredo will compete for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna squad aboard a Husqvarna TE 300i.

Securing a significant career victory at this year’s ErzbergRodeo Hare Scramble, Alfredo recently returned to Europe having successful completed the Roof of Africa – the final stop of the Hard Enduro season.

Alfredo is now gearing up for the switch to indoor enduro competition. Wrapping up the 2017 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship as runner-up, the Spaniard is confident of finishing one-place higher this year. He will begin his quest for the 2018 SuperEnduro title at round one of the five event series on December 9, in Krakow, Poland.
