KEN & JOE’S 2017 HONDA CRF450R PROJECT: STYLE AND PERFORMANCE UPGRADES

On this week’s 4-Stroke Project Bike Spotlight we feature our 2017 Honda CRF450R build with Ken & Joe’s Honda in Santa Clarita California . This was the first year of the newest generation CRF450R platform that didn’t come stock with an electric start. So of course that was added along with a few other upgrades for style and performance. We packed this week’s Thumper Theater with some very unique project bikes . DP Motorsports triple clamps are made 100 percent in the USA at their facility in Northern California. It’s machined out of 6061 aircraft-quality aluminum with a 7075 billet-aluminum steering stem. The steering-stem bearing, new bearing race and titanium hardware are included as standard equipment. Available in silver, black and red color options for Hondas.

The complete electric starter available from Honda comes complete with a starter motor, wiring harness, battery box, cam decompression pin and all the gears required. Just supply a battery and the magic button comes to life. The Rekluse Torque Drive clutch is designed to transfer maximum power to the ground utilizing its thin friction-plate technology and multiple spring configurations.

 

 

Motoz Terrapactor tires are designed with a lightweight carcass, featuring a sidewall and knob footprint with flex zone made of a high-quality, hybrid rubber compound. Available in sizes 14 to 21 inches.

Yoshimura’s RS-9T complete stainless steel and carbon fiber exhaust system features an all-new three-stage header design, new tail-pipe divider and larger RS-9T muffler core with forward positioning for increased mass centralization while increasing overall volume for decreased sound levels. Yoshimura designed their CRF450R system to provide more trackable power and improve torque.

TM Designs’ Factory Edition rear chainguides are specifically designed for motocross using proprietary impact memory technology featuring a slimmer profile, increased ground clearance, lighter chain-wear pad design and side plates that have been lengthened for maximum protection.

The set of wheels from Nore Worx features red-anodized Kite Elite hubs CNC-machined out of 6082 aircraft-quality billet aluminum, Alpina silver stainless-steel spokes, 7075 forged-aluminum spoke nipples anodized red and black D.I.D. Dirt Star race rims.

ODI offers their very popular soft-compound half-waffle grips in a lock-on version. Instead of white, like the standard grip, the lock-on has a distinct light gray color and is available for two- or four-stroke machines. The RC-8 clutch perch assembly from ARC is constructed of billet aluminum and includes an ARC adjustable folding lever with a nylon sleeve that contacts the handlebar allowing for rotation during a crash. The 1/8-turn cable adjuster and replaceable lever pivot bushing add to the factory feel.

N-Style Semi-Custom graphics with a matte finish gives the Ken & Joe’s machine that factory look and feel.
