EnduroCross Vegas Style

Geoff Aaron gets by Taddy just after Taddy grabbed the holeshot. The two had a good battle at the beginning of the race but a couple of mistakes by Aaron let Taddy slip away.

We just made the drive through the scorching desert back from the first round of the EnduroCross in Las Vegas, Nevada. At points in the drive the temperature outside was a balmy 117 degrees, its a dry heat which makes it ok. 35 pros braved the miserable Vegas heat, including Taddy Blazusiak, last years champion to go at it inside the air conditioned Orleans Arena. A big surprise after the pro qualifiers was that Ricky Dietrich didn’t make it into the main event! At last years opening round he and Taddy had a serious battle for the top spot in the main and Ricky is known as a rider who excels at EnduroCross.

Taddy is simply amazing on a dirt bike, he was pumped to win the opening round.

When the gate dropped on the main event, Taddy squeaked out the holeshot only to have Geoff Aaron sneak by him and hold the lead for a couple of laps. The two riders traded the lead until Taddy put a nice block pass before the matrix log section and Geoff was never able to get back within striking distance. Back in the mayhem of the course, Kyle Redmond held a strong third until a fall dropped him back, then third place was held by Cody Webb and Cory Graffunder until Cody Webb took a swim in the water section. Cory Graffunder, the Husky rider held onto third for the remainder of the race. Taddy has started the season with win to back up his 2009 title and looks strong, but don’t count out Geoff Aaron who finished second in the series last year and gave Taddy a run for his money.

Boothy goes OTB through the big tires. Even with the bike upside down and on top of him, it never stalled thanks to the Rekluse clutch.

Dirt Bike’s Boothy raced the vet class aboard a Yamaha built YZ250F and finished third. He had some amazing slow speed crashes in practice, going over the bars twice and feeling the weight of the YZ250F on top of him. He ran a Rekluse EXP clutch and never once in all his flips and crashes did the bike stall, even when it was upside down. He is very sore but had a great time.

The log matrix section was pretty tough but luckily the logs started to break down with abuse from roosting knobbies.

It is deadline week here at the million dollar Dirt Bike offices but we will find time to hit up Piru MX for some moto testing and hopefully a warm summer trail ride in the mountains. Check out the October issue of Dirt Bike for full EnduroCross coverage and to check out the YZ250F Boothy raced.

Cory Graffunder picks his way through a nasty rock corner.

Mike Brown looked strong through qualifiers and worked his way up from a bad start to mix it up with the front runners.

A big surprise was Ricky Dietrich not making the main event.

Kyle Redmond gets a friendly tire to the rear fender. Kyle ran in third for the first part of the race.
