OKLAHOMA CITY, OK.   (August 17, 2008) Ricky Dietrich rode his Monster Energy Kawasaki to his first ever AMA/Maxxis EnduroCross main event win in Guthrie Oklahoma on Saturday evening.  He battled his teammate, Damon Huffman until the very end as both riders clearly wanted the win.  Young Colton Haaker, the converted Trials rider now riding a KTM 250SX backed by Lucas Oil products rounded out the podium after battling with Nick Brozovich early in the main event.  Team Zip Ty’s Brozovich held on for fourth position in front of Kyle Redmond, the American that finished fifth in the Erzberg Rodeo earlier this year.

Damon Huffman pulled the holeshot and seemed destined to win his first EnduroCross main event but Dietrich kept the pressure on and when Huffman got stuck on a log within sight of the white flag, Dietrich managed to pass him and take a narrow lead into the final lap.  It was now Huffman that applied serious pressure during a frantic last lap that saw him nearly throw it all away when he came up short on a huge log double that only he was able to clear during the main event.  That stumble gave Dietrich just enough room to take an exciting win.  Dietrich picked a good time to get his first win as the Oklahoma event is round one of the Geico Triple Crown and he is now the only rider eligible for the $50,000 bonus put up for the rider that can win the Oklahoma , Columbus Ohio and Las Vegas Nevada main events.

KTM’s Taddy Blazuziak, the Polish phenom that won round one of the AMA/Maxxis EnduroCross series in Las Vegas sat the Oklahoma event out due to injuries suffered at a WORCS event the previous weekend.  Ten time National Trials Champion Geoff Aaron, who battled Blazuziak for the round 1 win was expected take advantage of his absence but was unable to capitalize when he failed to qualify for the main event after some uncharacteristic mistakes.  Oklahoma motorcycle legends, Guy Cooper and Kenny Bartram also gave EnduroCross a shot.  Forty Six year old Cooper showed some speed during the daytime practice and qualifiers but decided it was better to sit in the stands and enjoy the show since he has not had much seat time lately.  Bartram qualified 9th during the single lap qualifying session but failed to qualify for the main event despite the support of the vocal crowd.
