CIANCIARULO COMES THROUGH AT FOX NATIONAL MX

Adam Cianciarulo put together speed, consistency and a little good luck to be the winner of round two in the 250 class of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross championship. In race one, he did everything he could do after a poor start to finish third behind Justin Cooper and RJ Hampshire. He came back to win the second moto after key mistakes from other contenders.

MOTO ONE

Star Yamaha’s Justin Cooper led every lap of 250 moto one at Fox Raceway, but it was never a runaway. He pulled the holeshot and his teammate Colt Nichols relentlessly pursued him through the early laps. Monster Energy Pro Circuit rider Adam Cianciarulo took a chance starting all the way outside and he simply couldn’t make it work. His start was mediocre, then he tried too hard on the first lap and lost ground. Hunter Lawrence and Jordon Smith were in third and fourth on the first lap, but their lines came together and they both fell.  Chase Sexton, RJ Hapshire and Christian Craig had a little Geico Honda party behind the two Yamaha riders. By the halfway point in the race, Cooper started to get away and Cianciarulo got back into the game. In the final laps, the best entertainment on the track was watching Cianciarulo’s wild attempts at passing Sexton. He did that, and both he and RJ Hampshire passed Nichols. In the end, the top five riders were separated by less than four seconds.

MOTO TWO

Red Bull KTM’s Shane McElrath, who crashed in moto one, led the early laps of moto two.  Cianciarulo started  much closer to the front this time and made a few quick passes on Justin Cooper and Alex Martin. After a few laps, he got around McElrath, too. But then it was Australian Geico Honda rider Hunter Lawrence who was on fire. He came up to the front and then passed for the lead. A few laps later, he slid out, letting Cianciarulo back by. From there on, he closed back on the leader but couldn’t make a move. The 3-1 score gave Cianciarulo his second straight overall win.
