CARMICHAEL CLINCHES IN DALLAS–APRIL 22

CARMICHAEL CLINCHES IN DALLAS–APRIL 22

Ricky Carmichael became the 2001 Supercross Champion by clinching his 11th main event in a row Saturday night in Dallas. The only rider to even present a brief detour for the R.C express was Honda’s Ezra Lusk, who pulled the holeshot and traded paint with Carmichael for several laps. In the end, though, Carmichael took the checkered flag with a 12-second cushion over Lusk. Defending champ Jeremy McGrath was third, and was gracious in handing over his crown. This marks only the second 250 supercross title that McGrath has failed to win in his long career. In the 125 ranks, World Champion Grant Langston took his first supercross win, and the second in a row for KTM. Ernesto Fonseca still leads the western series, however, and is expected to clinch next week in Salt Lake City.
