BEAN OIL BLUES: MR. KNOW-IT-ALL

STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
Dear Mr. Know-It-All,
My exhaust valve in my 2017 300XC was absolutely stuck shut. Lacking snarl was an understatement. I was using Maxima Castor 927, partially because I liked the smell. You can’t use that oil. Darn good chance Drew Jones is starting to have that issue.

Bill, being an old aficionado of the 2-stroke machine, I can fully understand the compulsion with a nice bean oil odor. I do know that the Maxima Castor 927 has many superior properties for the life and power of your two-stroke, but it has a high flash point. When used on a machine that’s humming hard, like a charging 125 or 250, it’s excellent. To be honest, on a machine that is trail-based, where lugging and short-shifting are the modus operandi (as is the case with your KTM 300), I would use Maxima Formula K2. I have used it for years. It’s a full synthetic, burns clean and offers excellent properties to keep your engine thriving.
